I appreciate the usefulness of Robert Anton Wilson’s concept of guerrilla ontology.
The basic idea is to introduce what I’ll call “cultural white noise” in everyday life to challenge preconceived notions of reality. These challenges to the status quo are usually so absurd they bypass the intended target’s defense mechanisms against people trying to sell them something. In the confusion, the target is sometimes left with profound thoughts they otherwise might not have had from more direct methods.
One simple example is standing on a busy street corner handing out blank pieces of paper. When inevitably questioned, you might say you’re passing out “the truth.” Most will just think you’re a loon. Some might take the time to wonder…
